Today, as we celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day, we would like to pause and consider the opportunity this day holds for each of us. One way we can honor Dr. King is by asking ourselves what we can do now, going forward, that is better than what we have done so far.
How can we join his march today?
Yes, we can listen to his speeches. We can hear his call to justice. But how can we rise to that call? How we can reach more closely toward Dr. King's values of respect for human rights and equality for all — even when it’s not easy or convenient to do so? How can we embody his spirit in our own, everyday lives? In other words, what changes, whether big or small, are we willing to make in our own routines, habits, or beliefs in order to advance the realization of his dream?
Living Out Dr. King’s Legacy
Dr. King was an activist who stood up for justice and peace through non-violent means. He was unwavering in his commitment to ending racial inequality. And he asked us all to work together, in whatever ways we can, to create a world where all people are treated equally, with dignity, respect, and equal access to opportunity.
However you and your loved ones spend this holiday, we wish you a day that is rich with reflection, meaningful memories, and a renewed sense of purpose.
Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day
