In your organization, communication skills are important. You expect employees to work as a team, help customers, and, as an expert in their discipline, you expect them to make important recommendations to help you drive the business.

These are a few of our favorite interview questions that help test candidates communication skills during the interview process.

Common Communication Skills Interview Questions:

  1. How would you explain a complicated subject to a colleague or customer who is already frustrated?
  2. Tell me of a time you or your team had a huge success. What made it so successful?
  3. How would you explain a complicated technical problem to a colleague with less technical understanding?
  4. How have you handled working with someone you felt was not a good communicator?
  5. In your role, do you think it's more important to be a good listener or a good communicator?
  6. Describe a time when you had to be careful talking a bout sensitive information. How did you do it?
  7. Tell me about a time you and a colleague disagreed. How did you handle the situation?
  8. How would you go about persuading someone to see things your way at work?
  9. What would you do if you misunderstood an important communication on the job?
  10. Tell me about a time you made a mistake at work. How did you handle the situation?
